Constitution Revision

The pastors and deacons are recommending an improvement to the wording of our church constitution. This proposed change will be considered in our congregational meeting on May 18, 2025.

CURRENT Amendments: This Constitution, with the exception of Articles II, III and IV, may be amended by three-fourths majority of the members present and voting at any regular or special business meeting, provided notice has been given of the anticipated amendment at six regular services of the church and also that the proposed change has been conspicuously posted in the church three weeks in advance. Articles II, III, and IV require unanimous vote for amendment.

PROPOSED Amendments: This Constitution may be amended by the approval of a three-fourths majority of currently active members. Voting may be done in person or by absentee ballot at the designated regular or special business meeting. Notice of the proposed amendment(s) must be provided at six regular services of the church, and the amendment(s) to be proposed must have been conspicuously posted in the church by the pastor(s) three weeks in advance.

Reasons for the proposed amendment:

  • The current wording of our governing documents would allow a solitary individual the power to usurp the will of the majority of members when trying to improve our constitution.
  • The current wording allows even the smallest group of members present at a congregational meeting the prerogative to make adjustments to our congregation. There is currently no quorum required.
  • There is no provision for active members who may be absent on the day of an important vote to cast a ballot. The new wording allows for absentee ballots.
